NEW ALBUM … OF OLD SONGS!
Nat The Hammer – Making Mixtapes (Bedroom Recordings Vol 1- 2007-2014)
Cassette/Digital (Catalogue No: KYP074 – Kylie Productions)
It’s been quite some time since I’ve updated this page as I’ve been concentrating on activities with The Reverse, releasing the album “Which Way Out” and the EP “If The World Ends Now” on Blang Records over the last two years.
The Reverse are taking a break after the recent release of their album ‘Which Way Out’ and follow up EP, ’If The World Ends Now”
The Reverse are taking a break so I am now… (finally!) about to release my first solo album.
Making Mixtapes is a collection of songs written and recorded at home between 2007-2014. During this time I regularly performed them live but they haven’t been available… until now.
It will be released digitally and as a very limited edition cassette tape on the ace lo-fi cassette label Kylie Productions on 29th July.
Over the last six month I have performed solo supporting The Wave Pictures, David Cronenberg’s Wife at the Blang Records 16th anniversary showcase and as a guest of Emmy the Great’s as part of her sold out gig at St Mathias Church in Stoke Newington.
During 2007-20014 Nat hosted and performed the songs on Making Mixtapes at popular night Under the Influence and regularly around London, notably at a series of Anti-Folk Festivals and the legendary night A Spoonful Of Poison.
LATEST 16/02/15
It’s been quite some time since I’ve updated this page as I’ve been concentrating on activities with The Reverse and the recent release of our *wildly successful* single “No, I Don’t Want to See Your Stupid F**king Band”. We’re also working on songs for a second album, so are busy in the process of recording new songs.
In the meantime however, I am delighted to have a song included on forthcoming album “Songs About Albums Vol 1″, released by ace blog “The Album Wall“.
It’s the first original song I’ve released as Nat The Hammer and is featured as a teaser for the whole album on Soundcloud now. It’s called “Long Car Journeys” and is about R.E.M. and their album “Murmur”.
Here’s the link to all the details about the album and where you can hear “Long Car Journeys”
http://thealbumwall.blogspot.co.uk/p/songs-about-albums-volume-1.html
I also performed as Nat The Hammer at the beginning of this year as I hosted the Under the Influence Steve Harley special that was curated by the wonderful Papernut Cambridge. They acted as a house band, so I had the wonderful priviledge of performing my cover with a band that included Ian Button, Jack Hayter, Robert Rotifer, Citizen Helene and one of my all time heroes Darren Hayman.
A really wonderful evening! Check out the Under The Influence facebook page for pictures and videos coming soon.
NAT’S BACK!!
Having taken the last few months to focus on the release of the debut album by my band The Reverse; “Kind Words For Cruel Times”, I’m dusting the cobwebs off my faintly ridiculously named alter ego, Nat The Hammer and doing some solo gigs.
Sunday 16th Feb: The Amersham Arms: Utter’s birth/deathday
This year it’s ‘Utter!’s 10th birthday! Having re-written a special song and been unable to perform it live when Richard Tyrone Jones staged his own funeral a few years ago, this time I will play “Richard’s Funeral” for the first and probably last time, as well as a couple of other songs.
Lots of great comedians, spoken words acts and music all making an appearance.
Kicks off at 4.30pm and i’m on around 6.30pm
Thursday March 6tH: Marjories Kitchen: Luton: UTTER LUTONIA 2
This is another UTTER event curated by word smith Lee Nelson.
My face is plastered all over the poster, which means I can go around telling people that I’m headlining, even though there is no headliner as such and the whole event has a much more democratic supportive focus, with no real hierachy… still nice poster.

Next weds, 17th April see’s my own band, The Reverse, return to the live stage for a full set for the first time in nearly two years!
We’re giving away a 4 song CD album sampler to the first 20 through the door. Advanced tickets for £5 from: http://www.ticketweb.co.uk/event/38373
Or £7 on the door.
There are some other great acts playing including, the wonderful James Wolf and the hotly tipped The Daturas.
The headline act is the great Johnny Panic & The Fevers, who are coming down from Liverpool to launch their new EP.

MON 19TH NOV: UNDER THE INFLUENCE: LOST INDIE BANDS OF THE 90S
On Monday November 19th we plan to pay tribute to all those lost indie bands of the 90s.
Bands who may have once been proclaimed to be the next big thing, but for one reason or another have been resigned to a simple footnote in pop history yet are still fondly remembered by dedicated fans everywhere.
So if you remember a time when Radiohead were more often found as support act for Kingmaker, a time when Jamie Hewitt’s distinctive artwork made you think of Senseless Things rather than Gorillaz, if you like Richard Hawley’s solo work but secretly still yearn for a Longpigs reunion or believe that Northern Uproar were the band that Oasis could have been, then this is the night for you!
Acts & special guests to be confirmed and announced soon.
Keep on eye on the website or facebook event for details.

FLORENCE & THE LACH-INE!
On May 30th I supported the American Godfather of Anti-Folk Lach on his UK tour at The Boogaloo.
There were some great performances from Elena Dana & Depresstival before I took to the stage. My set was well received with an enthusiastic singalong from the crowd to “It’s Not Suprising You Can’t See What’s Going On When Your Head Is Stuck So far Up Your Own Arse” & “Do You Like My Band?”. Lach gave a great performance and was joined spontaneously by Florence Welch (sans machine), who then at the end of Lach’s set borrowed my guitar to play a cover of The Beatles “Oh Darling” before joining Lach for a duet of the Velvet Underground’s “Femme Fatale” (above is a pic I took of the two of them on my phone). (Click here to read about Lach’s influence on the American Anti-folk scene and his link to acts as diverse as Jeffrey Lewis, Regina Spector, Beck & Michelle Shocked)
